For 14-year-old Katie McCabe, a dream has come true: she sailed around Great Britain on her own.
In June she set out with her boat "Falanda" in Exmouth, southwest England, and ended her tour on Saturday, as the BBC reported on Sunday.
Katie McCabe now hopes to break a record as the youngest person to take this tour alone.
It is not yet clear whether this will be recognized.
So far, the British Timothy Long holds the record who circumnavigated Great Britain last year at the age of 15.
Accompanied by the father
McCabe comes from the county of Devon and was accompanied by her father on their 3,000-kilometer tour for insurance reasons, who, however, sailed behind them on another boat about eight kilometers away.
The 14-year-old, who also wants to draw attention to the pollution of the oceans with her adventure, collected more than 10,000 pounds (around 11,646 euros) in donations for charitable organizations via a fundraising website.
The original goal was 6,000 pounds.
McCabe shared impressions of her tour on Instagram.
She wrote: "For the past seven and a half weeks I have literally lived a dream, just me and Falanda (with my father, a small spot in the distance behind!)"
She also thanked her boat: “Falanda took good care of me, and I hope I showed her just as much appreciation.
She's a beautiful, seaworthy ship, and the hardest part of that trip was going down the pontoon today. "
New goals in view
Before she started her last leg of the journey in Torbay on Saturday, she said, according to the BBC: "Ellen MacArthur is great and Laura Dekker too, I would like to do something like her, maybe next I want to try racing." MacArthur is a successful British sailor.
Dekker set sail at the same age as McCabe and circled the world alone.
