Deutsche Bahn is now offering the union a corona bonus.

Can that still resolve the collective bargaining dispute?

Berlin - Deutsche Bahn is trying to prevent the planned strike on Monday night and is making an offer to the GDL train drivers' union: a corona bonus that will be paid out for 2021.

The German press agency reported on Sunday.

The DB Human Resources Director Martin Seiler did not initially name a specific amount.

"There can be no more reason to refuse to return to the negotiating table," says Seiler.

Deutsche Bahn: "Now it's just up to the GDL"

The train drivers' union GDL has planned to stop trains in long-distance and regional traffic from Monday at 2:00 a.m. The strike is expected to end on Wednesday at 2:00 a.m. Freight traffic has been on strike for the second time this month since Saturday. The Federal Association of Materials Management, Purchasing and Logistics (BME) warns of an intensification of the bottlenecks in the industry. "Sooner or later, consumers should also feel this, for example when building or buying a car," said BME logistics expert Carsten Knauer of the German Press Agency. A quick switch from rail to road is not possible. "Every mode of transport is totally overbooked and the prices are going through the roof," Knauer explains the background.

The GDL is demanding a corona premium of 600 euros.

In addition, the collective bargaining dispute is about increasing table wages along the lines of the public service.

Pension provision and the terms of the collective agreement are also important issues for the GDL.

It was not initially clear whether the strike would take place as planned or whether the union would return to the negotiating table.

The population shows little understanding for the demands of the GDL.

According to a survey, more than half (56 percent) of the respondents think the strike is inappropriate.

Should there be a strike in passenger traffic as planned, consumers can still get there with a few tips.

In some cases, rail travelers can claim their money back.
