In Lower Saxony, a 35-year-old parachutist fell to his death in front of dozens of witnesses.
As the police announced on Sunday, the accident occurred on Saturday afternoon near an airfield in Ganderkesee.
Accordingly, both the man's main and reserve parachutes failed.
He fell unchecked into a corn field.
Difficult search
According to the officials, around 60 to 100 spectators followed the action.
The experienced jumper had jumped from an airplane together with two other men, the other two landed without any problems.
Finding the victim in the field was difficult.
It was only around two hours after the crash that his body was discovered from the air using a police helicopter.
The exact cause of the accident is being investigated, said the police in Delmenhorst.
A crisis intervention team was also on site to look after the man's companions and helpers.
