At least ten people were killed in the flooding in the US state of Tennessee.

As various US media reported unanimously, about 40 other people are still missing.

According to the "Tennessean" portal, rescue crews looked for survivors on Sunday night.

There had been torrential rain in the center of the state on Saturday.

In the particularly affected Humphreys County around the city of Waverly, more than 350 liters of precipitation per square meter fell in individual locations within a few hours.

For comparison: in Hamburg there is an average of around 800 liters per year.

Country roads and highways were flooded;

In places the power supply and the cellular network failed.

Rivers burst their banks;

TV channels showed pictures of destroyed houses and cars.

A state of emergency was imposed for the regions particularly affected.

Tennessee Governor Bill Lee called on citizens to be careful.

Emergency teams would support the people in the flooded areas.

According to local media, among other things, rescue teams are supposed to move from house to house looking for survivors.

There is unlikely to be any further flooding in the disaster region.

For Sunday and the coming days, meteorologists have predicted significantly better weather.
