The competitions for the final stage of the individual track in the school programming competition for the year 2021, which is held by the Syrian Scientific Olympiad Department at the Excellence and Creativity Authority at the headquarters of the National Center for Excellence at Tishreen University in Lattakia, started today, with the participation of 35 male and female students from different governorates.

The competition targets successful school students from the fifth grade to the eleventh grade who have the ability to program in the C++ language.

The head of the scientific committee of the school competition, Dr. Abi Sandouq, told SANA reporter that the tournament was conducted in its individual track this year with the aim of developing information training and spreading its culture in Syria, pointing to the progress of about 300 male and female students last month for the first stage, which was called the leveling stage, where it consisted of multiple choice questions in programming. Of them, 80 male and female students passed the liquidation stage.

He pointed out that the competition was conducted electronically (online), where the participants submitted to it while they were in their homes through a special program. Accordingly, 35 male and female students qualified for the final stage of the individual track, and they are currently participating in this tournament.

And he indicated that the 35 contestants will be subject to two official competitions on two consecutive days, each of which includes 3 programming issues. Each student is required to write a program on the text of the problem and the solution in the form of a program that gives the required outputs from the inputs that have been given to it, indicating that the target age group according to the vision of the Commission is From the fifth grade and above, however, the current tournament does not include fifth and sixth graders because they were eliminated in the previous stage.

Fund stressed that the purpose of the competition is to discover students who are creative in programming, as they will be included in a special team in the Excellence and Creativity Authority to enter the Olympiad in the field of informatics at a later time and then to participate at the global level after their qualification and training, where 10-12 students will be selected, indicating that the training of the qualified will be followed up. One of the competitions is special training to raise their programming level and open the way for them to participate in the Olympiad, and thus they will become members of the Syrian Scientific Olympiad.

The coordinator of the Syrian Scientific Olympiad in Latakia, Ali Riahi, pointed out that this competition is taking place for the first time in Syria as a culmination of several stages of filtering electronically.

He explained that the competition will take place over two days and the duration of each test is 5 hours, and the participants will have the opportunity to participate in the final qualifiers for the Syrian Scientific Olympiad without going through the preliminary qualifiers, and they will also have the opportunity to join the national software team.

Seventh-grade student Sawsan Salloum confirmed that she participated in the competition to develop herself in the field of programming and participate in the Syrian Scientific Olympiad, while the seventh-grade student Youssef Sobh pointed out that this experience is rich and useful for him to achieve his ambition to become an informatics engineer, while the tenth-grade student Majd Salloum confirmed The participation aims to refine his skills in the field of programming and develop his performance.

The student in the second year of secondary school from the National Center for Distinguished Students, Ibrahim Al-Sheikh, confirmed that his participation aims to develop his programming skills and join the national team, describing the test as suitable for all levels.
