The trial of a young woman who is said to have killed her newborn daughter has begun in Regensburg.
The prosecution accuses her of murder on base motives.
So far, the 25-year-old has not given any information about the allegations before the regional court.
The girl's body was discovered in a dumpster on Christmas Day 2020.
An autopsy showed that the baby was viable after birth and did not die of natural causes.
The mother is said to have cut off the air supply to the baby shortly after birth.
Then, according to the prosecution, she packed the unconscious or dead child in a garbage bag and put it in the garbage can.
According to the autopsy, the cause of death was asphyxiation or hypothermia or a combination of both.
The mother went to a hospital and told the doctors that she had recently suffered a stillbirth, reports the BR.
The woman was arrested at the clinic.
"The baby was a disruptive factor for her"
The prosecutor is convinced that the woman acted out of "blatant selfishness".
You didn't want to appear as a liar because of the hidden pregnancy.
In addition, she found a new, stable living situation shortly beforehand and did not want to endanger it.
"The baby was a nuisance to her that she had to get rid of."
The process is set to continue on Tuesday.
The verdict could be pronounced on Friday.
