After a difficult year in 2020 that almost completely crushed tourism in the country, Croatia is proudly raising its head this summer and even close to breaking its record revenue from tourism for one year.

The country, which is more dependent on the industry than any other EU company, last week presented impressive figures that bring it closer to its peak from 2019, when the profit from tourism was about 12 billion euros.

The data already show that 90 percent of revenues reached two years ago, and in the summer months there is an increase of 10 percent compared to the same period in 2019. As of mid-August, over 55 million overnight stays were recorded in Croatia (more than in 2020) and a total of over 9 million visitors Since the beginning of the year, of which 3.7 million in July alone.

"Given the trends in the world of tourism, our goal is to maintain the stability of our system, preserve jobs and make Croatia recognized as a safe tourist destination," said Nikolina Berniatz, Minister of Culture and Sports of Croatia.

"We want to continue to be proud of these results so we must all adhere to safety measures and abide by the rules."

The fourth wave is not felt in Croatia excessively, at least not at this stage, but this week the country announced that each tourist will have to present his latest vaccination date, which must be within 270 days of arrival.

As mentioned, the Croatian economy clearly relies on its tourism industry, which accounts for almost 20 percent of the gross national product.

On average, there are over a million tourists in Croatia every day, of whom 920,000 are foreigners.
