Almost 114,000 deaths in total

Public Health France also recorded 110 new deaths linked to Covid-19, bringing the total of deaths in France to 113,991 since the start of the epidemic.

"In metropolitan France, the situation seems to be stabilizing for a few days," said government spokesman Gabriel Attal after the Council of Ministers on Wednesday.

Even if, with an average of 21,500 cases of new contamination per day, we remain at a level "still far too high", he added.

On the other hand, "the situation is dramatic in the ultra-marine territories", he continued, explaining that under-vaccination "is wreaking havoc there".

In the West Indies, "the epidemic situation seems to be stabilizing and receding but remains very serious".

In Polynesia, the outbreak of contaminations "could quickly cause hospital saturation".
