The current school year opens with the new guidelines from the Ministry of Health which stipulate that preschoolers will be required to undergo a preliminary corona test before the start of the school year.

This is in order to locate positive children for Corona in advance and prevent infection in kindergartens.

Apparently, even during the year our children will need quite a few such tests.

This situation is new to all of us - to the parents and even more so to the children themselves who suddenly need to be medically prepared upon their return to kindergarten.

Every opening of a year in kindergarten entails excitement, along with difficulties of adjustment, fears and even anxieties.

This year this challenge is twofold - not only are children busy adjusting to the new kindergarten staff and new kindergarten children, but they also need to get used to the reality of frequent corona tests to prevent the spread of the plague.

For many children, even children who have already undergone corona tests in the recent past, the test involves a lot of apprehension, fear and even in some cases reluctance and unwillingness to cooperate.

How do we prepare the children for the new situation?

First, the fear must be normalized and given legitimacy.

What is abnormal is the situation, and your feelings are normal in light of the abnormal situation.

Second, a personal example should be given, as far as possible, of trying to do and function as much as possible in the context of maintaining a routine in the given situation.

The situation is not normal, the children's reactions are actually really normal.

One of the important principles in preventing stress and anxiety is preparation and mediation for the deterrent.

- Before the test it is important to prepare the child and explain why the test is important to start the kindergarten in health.

- It is recommended to experiment with a simulated test at home on a doll and yourself so that the child will actually see and experience a simulation of the situation.

- You can decide together on something pleasant that the child will imagine during the test and remind him of it. For example, "During the test, imagine how you see waves in the sea," according to his choice and preference.

- It is of course important to be there with the child during the test, give him a hand or sit him on you. Not to mess with anything else but just the child. What the examiner will do should be mediated throughout the test. And connect it to the medium you did in preparation beforehand.

-At the end of the test, the child should be encouraged and mediated to him how much you appreciate the efforts he made to overcome the fear and how much you are proud of him for going through it like the adults.

In addition, keep in mind that young children are sensitive to non-verbal cues.

And so we need to be aware of why we are broadcasting non-verbally about the decision to test all kindergarten children and the start of the school year.

Even those of us who have a critique of some of the regulations, it is advisable not to demonstrate this in front of a preschooler, this may make him feel insecure and even less with motivation to go to kindergarten and be tested towards him.

It is important to give the child confidence, to convey calmness as much as possible and to remember that what we "transmit", even consciously or intentionally, the children usually feel good and therefore it is important to give the child confidence, not to convey fear.
