How beautiful this life in luxury could be: a beautiful castle, liveried servants, candlelight, glittering evening dresses, lobsters in all-you-can-eat quantities. But alas, this is the story of Princess Diana, and as such tragic, melancholy, deeply sad. Barely more than a minute of footage is enough to make this clear to every viewer. Must be the trailer for the next season of "The Crown", right?
Is not it. But the trailer for the movie "Spencer", in which the actress Kristen Stewart wears the short hairstyle, chic dresses and the sad smile of the "Princess of Hearts". She looks amazing, a strange mix of Diana and Stewart. Very lost, very desperate. The film will celebrate its world premiere in September at the Venice Film Festival, and in November it will be shown in cinemas in the USA. A German start date has not yet been set.
All of this is not a cheap trick by the filmmakers to benefit from the hype about Diana sparked by "The Crown". Diana's fate is big enough for several fictional versions. Kristen Stewart is a style icon herself and is one of the most sought-after film actresses in the world, the Chilean director Pablo Larrain plays in the same league and shot sophisticated cinema fare like "Jackie - The First Lady" and "Ema" - and the soundtrack is controlled by the "Radiohead" «Guitarist Johnny Greenwood.
Incidentally, the beautiful appearance of "Spencer" was shot mostly in Germany, in the Schlosshotel Kronberg near Frankfurt and in the Marquardt Palace near Potsdam.
The theme of the film is the phase in which Diana decides to divorce Charles, during the Christmas holidays with the lovely family.
So it's no wonder that it's easy to confuse the film with "The Crown".
Because that's exactly how the fourth and so far last season of the series ends, but not in 1991 as in the film, but a year earlier.
Charles warns Diana against even thinking about a divorce.
Soon the audience will be able to immerse themselves deeply in the story of the captured princess again.
First the decision to divorce in »Spencer«, then the consequences of this decision in the fifth season of »The Crown«, which is to start in 2022.
If that's not enough, you can watch old films, for example "Diana" (2013) about the last two years of the princess' life with Naomi Watts in the title role or "The Queen" (2006) about the crisis of the royal family after Diana's death. At least nine actresses have played Diana in various TV dramas, series and films.
