Victims of violence often do not know how and to whom to turn for help.

The retail chain Spar has now started an action together with the City of Vienna - as a mission against violence against women.

Vienna - When shopping, there are currently always two receipts in Wiener Spar branches: a purchase receipt and one as a helper in an emergency.

The Austrian retail chain Spar has started an action against violence against women together with the City of Vienna and provides information on receipts about emergency numbers and support facilities.

Since supermarket checkouts are a highly frequented place in society, the campaign should help to provide easily accessible information about emergency numbers in order to prevent further acts of violence and to offer those affected quick and unbureaucratic protection.

With the so-called “post-payment receipt”, affected women can quickly seek telephone contact to aid facilities in Vienna.

“It is important that women get help as quickly and unbureaucratically as possible in an emergency - around the clock.

The more often the emergency numbers are pointed out, the better, ”said Vice Mayor and City Councilor Kathrin Gaal (SPÖ) commenting on the campaign.

Women affected by violence would receive support at any time via the 24-hour emergency number and the women's shelter emergency number.

Because: "The City of Vienna is there for women in emergency situations," adds Gaal.

The managing director of the Spar branches, Alois Huber, also stands behind the mission: “As the largest private employer and local supplier, we are aware of our social responsibility and repeatedly support social projects.

It is a matter of course for us to support this campaign "

The aid and information campaign is to take place over the next few weeks in all Spar branches in the Austrian capital.

There have already been similar campaigns in Germany: For example, the Federal Ministry for Family, Seniors, Women and Youth (BMFSFJ) started the nationwide campaign “Not safe at home?” In April 2020 with the “Stronger than violence” initiative.

To this end, posters were hung nationwide in large retail chains informing about the initiative and offers of help.

Information for those affected was also on many receipts.

Because the number of people who are victims of violence is also high in this country: According to the BMFSFJ, for example, every third woman is affected by physical or sexual violence at least once in their life.

Those affected can find help anonymously and free of charge at any time under the number 0800 0116016.
