Those who are too busy during the week like to unpack the vacuum cleaner on the weekend - and sometimes on Sundays too.
But is that even allowed?
In general, there is no ban on starting the vacuum cleaner on Sunday.
It is one of the typical household appliances and can therefore be used in the apartment at any time, as the German Tenants' Association explains on its website.
Vacuuming on Sundays, yes - but only at room volume
However, vacuuming can become a nuisance if the noise
goes beyond
normal room volume
.
Unfortunately, there is no precise definition of room volume.
The Hamburg Regional Court explains it as follows: "Only when the volume goes beyond what, taking into account the structural conditions, no longer penetrates the neighboring apartment as normal living noise, the level of the room volume is exceeded" (317 T 48/95).
As long as the walls are not too noisy and the vacuum cleaner is not particularly loud - which is usually the case with older models - vacuuming on Sunday should not be a problem.
