Hurricane Ida, currently category 1, touched down on the southern coast of the province of Pinar del Rio, in the western part of Cuba. The local meteorological service has announced it.
Ida reached Cuban soil in the village of La Coloma around 1:30 Italian time, with winds of 130 km per hour, the Cuban Institute of Meteorology (Insmet) said. According to the US National Hurricane Center (NHC), Ida will be an "extremely dangerous" Category 4 hurricane when it reaches the United States tomorrow.
