(ANSA-AFP) - NEW DELHI, AUGUST 28 - India has vaccinated 10 million people in a single day for the first time since the start of the immunization campaign against Covid.
This was announced by the Ministry of Health.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi called the goal "an epochal undertaking" for a country of 1.3 billion inhabitants.
"Congratulations to those who are vaccinated and to those who made the vaccination unsuccessful," he tweeted.
The government's goal was to vaccinate an estimated 1.1 billion adults by the end of the year, but shortages, bureaucratic delays and the skepticism of many have slowed the campaign. Only 15% of the population received two doses, while in these days the number of daily cases of coronavirus has started to rise again above 40,000. Today in particular 46,000 have been registered, the victims have been 500. This new surge would be attributed to a new outbreak in the southern state of Kerala. (ANSA-AFP).
