Three very old people are hugging each other, the two women kiss the man in their midst - there is a moving story behind this photo. Pictures of the week.

Two are better than one: the 97-year-old former US soldier Martin Adler is kissed on the cheeks left and right by the sisters Mafalda (right) and Giuliana Naldi.

For more than seven decades, Adler kept a black and white photo of him as a young soldier with a big smile and three immaculately dressed Italian children.

In 1944 he had saved the siblings when the Nazis withdrew.

This week the veteran met the three, who are now eighty themselves, for the first time in person in Bologna, Italy.

They had already met again eight months ago in a video conversation.
