(ANSA) - MADRID, AUG 28 - About 350 migrants attempted to cross the fence that separates Morocco from the Spanish enclave of Melilla early this morning, without success. This was reported by a spokesman for the Spanish government.
Spanish border guards were warned at around 5:30 am by their Moroccan counterparts that "a group of 350 Sub-Saharan Africans" were trying to scale the barrier near the border post of Barrio Chino.
The Civil Guard then sent a helicopter to push them back, the spokesman continued, stating, without providing further details, that "no one was able to cross". Another group of more than 300 people had tried to enter Melilla on August 20, but once again none had, he added.
Three days earlier, more than 50 of the 150 migrants who stormed the fence had managed to enter Spanish territory. And on July 22, more than 230 entered Melillain one of the largest influxes of recent years. (HANDLE).
