2021-08-28T19:15:02.829Z

They gave them injections so that they would 'perform' better, in a circuit that collected 100,000 pesos in bets per edition. The police rescued them and now they have found a home for them.

“Cala” plays and jumps with the other four dogs that are now part of his new home.

At Juan Carlos's house, in Puerto Madryn,

pets are part of the family

.

His daughter Lara chose the name for the new member of the "herd" because in Greek it means "Beautiful".

It is one of the eight greyhound dogs that were rescued when they were going to be the protagonists of

a clandestine race

.

“The first days she was a bit shy, kind of fearful.

Maybe because she thought we weren't going to treat her all right.

But later it was adapted and now it is one more.

I cannot imagine what he may have suffered.

But hey, now he is with us and we are going to give him all the love he deserves ”, Juan Carlos told

Clarín

.

"Cala" is one of the three that remained in Madryn, since the rest

left for a transit home

based in Merlo, Buenos Aires province.

The greyhounds were rescued by the Police in an area known as Las Bardas, in Puerto Madryn.

It was the officer Jorge Mulero who, with a piece of information he received,

began to investigate

.

They arrived at the scene shortly before the first race begins.

Everything was ready.

There were between 30 and 40 people.

And almost 100 thousand pesos of bets.

“It was like the races were starting again after the restrictions of the pandemic.

The kennels were in place and everything was ready.

A neatly put together track.

The Police searched the cars and found a significant amount of drugs and medications.

Also syringes.

They were injected into the dogs so that they 'performed' more in the races,

"said prosecutor Daniel Báez.

They managed to rescue the dogs and take them to a place in the fourth police station in the port city.

A woman named Rosalía took them to her home, but a few days later she reported that due to financial reasons she could not support them.

Then, the Justice

began to place them in foster care

while the court case is being defined.

“A friend told me that there were dogs at the police station and with my family we did not doubt it.

We have three of the 'dog' breed and one more fit perfectly at home.

'Cala' immediately became friends with the others, she had no problems.

She is affectionate and somewhat reserved, "Juan Carlos describes her.

The man says that dogs are part of his family and that "we do not like dogs to suffer, on the contrary."

But, like all transit homes, he does not know yet if they will be able to support "Cala".

"We hope that she will finish the whole process and stay with us, although we still don't know. Of course it will hurt if they take her away because in a very short time we become very fond of her," she adds. Her daughter Lara She relates that "she arrived very skinny, that's why

we made her a diet with food

. Now she's better. She plays all the time. We are very happy about that."

"Daysi" wrote another story.

He is not a pure greyhound, but he was in the place where the underground races were to be developed.

“It was like love at first sight.

I arrived at the police station and an agent took me to the place where the dogs were.

And she was the first to greet me.

He started licking my hands and brought his paws to my chest.

I had no doubts that she was the dog I had to take with me because

she chose me

, ”said Liliana, another of the adopters.

He also has other pets: a golden, a labrador, and a poodle.

He lives in the West District of Madryn, but also has a small field in the area of the fences.

Until that field they transferred "Daysi" the first days.

“We brought him balanced food but he didn't even taste it.

I made him rice with chicken and he ate very little.

Until we gave him meat and he devoured it.

Maybe they had gotten her used to eating like this ”.

In family.

Miguel with "Daysi" at home.

The little dogs were afraid of being caressed.

She described the dog as “very submissive” and even “somewhat fearful at first.” But she adapted and is now at home with the other pets. “Daysi” shares Liliana's affection with that of her husband Miguel and her daughters Valentina , Ludmila and Ximena It is a middle class family, but with enough love to make one forget the bitch from hell that lived in the hands of those who vilely exploited them in clandestine races.

“She was looking for affection, there is no doubt.

We will have it until Justice decides.

They gave us custody for the duration of the case.

We trust you will stay here.

We already love her a lot, ”Liliana confessed.

The other five greyhounds were transferred to Buenos Aires.

Aware of the situation, the volunteer families that make up the “Hogar Amor de Galgos” arrived in Madryn and took them away.

They are already in transit homes

awaiting final adoption

.

“In general they were in good shape.

It is that the racing greyhound is cared for more than the one used for hunting.

Likewise, when someone is injured or can no longer fulfill the function

, they are discarded,

”he told Clarín Carina, a member of the household.

Meanwhile, the Madryn prosecutor's office began a process for animal abuse: both the owner of the field and some of those present in the fences are charged.

They believe that there are many other organizers of these underground races and also many other dogs that are exploited in the midst of heavy bets.

The third greyhound that remained in Puerto Madryn is in the hands of a woman who did not want to comment: "We are afraid, that is

a very dangerous mafia

."

Likewise, the dog is in good hands, cared for by the family.

The exploiters.

The truth is that "Cala" and "Daysi" are

already enjoying a new life,

far from the mistreatment and maneuvers of the organizers of the underground races.

“You have to give love to these little dogs.

Even though we know that they are passing through our families and maybe one day they will be taken away.

But that does not matter.

We live from day to day and we enjoy it like everyone else.

One does not understand how there can be such bad people.

But it exists.

Unfortunately, ”Liliana closed.

Just two stories of the many that are usually written when people understand the true value of pets and the cruelty of exploiting them or making them live the worst, as it happens with those who organize greyhound races.

Well worth the phrase: "The world would be a more pleasant place if everyone had the ability to love as unconditionally as a dog loves."

All said.
