(ANSA) (ANSA) - ROME, AUGUST 28 - The 78th International Film Festival of the Venice Biennale announces a panel on the crisis that has arisen in Afghanistan with particular attention to the situation of Afghan film directors and artists in general, in the tragic context of the entire population of that country.    The panel, the first initiative of the Biennale dedicated to these themes, will take place


(ANSA) - ROME, AUGUST 28 - The 78th International Film Festival of the Venice Biennale announces a panel on the crisis that has arisen in Afghanistan with particular attention to the situation of Afghan film directors and artists in general, in the tragic context of the entire population of that country.


   The panel, the first initiative of the Biennale dedicated to these themes, will take place on Saturday 4 September at 3 pm at the Palazzo delCasinò (Lido di Venezia), in the Press Conference Room.


   The Afghan director Sahraa Karimi, first woman president of the Afghan Film Organization and author of the recent appeal to raise awareness in the media, governments and world humanitarian organizations on the conditions of her country, already a guest of the 2019 Film Festival, will participate.


   Topic of the panel, the dramatic situation of Afghan filmmakers and, in general, of Afghan artists, the need for the creation of humanitarian corridors and the guarantee of the granting of political refugee status, as well as the concern for their future and the need to provide for their accommodation once arrived in Europe.


   The panel will be moderated by the journalist Giuliano Battiston, who since 2007 has dedicated himself to Afghanistan with travels, researches and essays, and will see the participation of the Afghan documentarian SahraMani (present with a project at the CoProduction Market of the Exhibition), and the members of the board of the International Coalitionfor Filmmakers at Risk (ICFR), Vanja Kaludjercic (Artistic Director of the International Film Festival of Rotterdam), OrwaNyrabia (Artistic Director of the International Documentary FilmFestival of Amsterdam), Mike Downey (President of the European Film Academy) and Matthijs Wouter Knol (Executive Director of the European Film Academy ).
