(ANSA) - ROME, AUGUST 29 - Nove Onlus launches the red handkerchief operation, a call to the general mobilization in support of Afghan women.

The association invites you to photograph yourself with a red handkerchief and post the images on all isocial, accompanied by the hashtag #saveafghanwomen.

The campaign was launched together with Trust Nel Nome dellaDonna, Radio Bullets, Il Cantiere delle Donne, Werest.art e6libera and other associations are joining.

'For twenty years - reads the note from Nove Onlus - the Afghan women have taken the first steps towards independence and the recognition of their rights with great difficulty. All this will quickly be made in vain by the return of the Taliban to power and when the spotlight of the news is turned off, the children and Afghan women will once again be invisible to the eyes of the world and of history '.

The initiative takes its name from the operation that made it possible, with the help of the Tuscania Carabinieri Regiment, to identify and collect at the gate of the Kabul airport the women on the lists coordinated by Nove Onlus, recognized thanks to the distinctive sign of the red handkerchief. Many resounded to cross that threshold and to safety by embarking on one of the flights to western countries, but many more remained in Afghanistan, in danger of their lives. Of these, the most at risk remain women. 'Let's not allow them to become invisible again - continues the association - The women who have arrived in Italy so far are happy to have the opportunity to start a new phase in their life, but very tried and scared for what is happening in their country'. (HANDLE).
