A cold front has given people in parts of South Africa winter fun in the snow for the weekend.
Sub-zero temperatures are unfamiliar in the country.
Even Table Mountain near Cape Town was adorned with a fine white splendor, as the operators of the cable car there announced.
In Ceres, a place around 450 meters above sea level, there was a closed blanket of snow.
Many families with children drove to the area around the tourist metropolis, a two-hour drive away, to have snowball fights or to build snowmen.
Police officers also enjoyed the white splendor in front of the camera.
Occasional snowfalls have even been reported from the vicinity of the port city of Durban, which usually has a warm tropical climate.
Winter is drawing to a close in the southern hemisphere, snowfalls are not uncommon at this time of year, especially in the high altitudes of the Cape State.
Every now and then it comes to violent winter weather.
Two years ago, pictures became known that showed giraffes and elephants in the snow.
At that time, an unusually violent onset of winter surprised many wild animals in Sneeuberg, a mountain range in the center of the country.
Up to 25 centimeters of snow were measured at that time.
