Chinese youth are alarmed by the news that the University of Shanghai has asked all colleges to "draw up a list" of LGBTQ + students, providing information on their "mental state". The Guardian reports it.

A disturbing fact that was reported on social media, the Chinese Weibo but also Twitter, where the screenshot of the directive was published in which the university asks to "investigate and search" the students who are part of the Lgbtq + community and to "find information on their psychological conditions ", their political position, their social contacts and other unspecified" relevant requirements ".

Shanghai University did not respond to the Guardian's requests for comment but after a few hours the post disappeared from social media. The fear is that this type of information can be used to target identified students. All the more so since the Chinese authorities have recently targeted groups of feminists and, in general, there is a climate of intolerance towards sexual minorities in the country.

In the past, the LGBTQ + community was very active on Chinese university campuses, but in recent years it has been increasingly marginalized. Last year, the closure of Shanghai Pride, the only major manifestation of gay pride, was announced.
