Berlioz has his festival at La Côte Saint-André, it was right that Maurice Ravel, composer of one of the most played classical music works in the world, had an appointment to live up to his reputation on his land native to the Basque Country. Born from the merger of the Maurice-Ravel Academy and the Musique en côte basque festival, this new Ravel Festival in the Basque Country should have seen the light of day last summer, under the leadership of pianists Jean-François Heisser and Bertrand Chamayou. Health crisis requires, we had to wait until 2021 to discover the ambitious program, imagined by the teacher and the student. Centered around Ciboure and Saint-Jean-de-Luz, bringing together the discovery of young talents and big names on the international scene (like Riccardo Chailly in closing), the event, which lasts until September 10,has already achieved its goal: to combine scholarly music and popular culture, with the same concern for pleasure and high standards.
