The fact that Italy will reach 50 billion in agri-food exports by the end of 2021 marks a new starting point and not an arrival point, with the industry aiming for 154 billion in turnover, up 8%. This is the message launched by the president of Federalimentare, Ivano Vacondio in the assembly on the inaugural day of Cibus. "The changes and the recovery we are experiencing are all signs that a transition phase is underway that will lead us towards a new economic and social paradigm - said Vacondio - and food & beverage has all the credentials to be among the protagonists of this new era "(ANSA)

The fact that Italy will reach 50 billion in agri-food exports by the end of 2021 marks a new starting point and not an arrival point, with the industry aiming for 154 billion in turnover, up 8%. This is the message launched by the president of Federalimentare, Ivano Vacondio on the inaugural day of Cibus, the international food exhibition to be held in Parma until 3 September. "The changes and the recovery we are experiencing are all signs that a transition phase is underway that will lead us towards a new economic and social paradigm - said Vacondio - and food & beverage has all the credentials to be among the protagonists of this new era ". The sector, after holding on during the most critical phase of the pandemic, has been able to give new answers to consumers who have become more digital, more attentive to the territory and sustainability.

"Our industry has already started to grow again - continued the president - and if exports are the flagship, food production will not be outdone and could close the year with + 6.5%". A mention also to the productions with geographical indication, which are worth about 17 billion euros, accounting for over 11% of the turnover of the industry.

The challenge of international trade is linked to the export issue. "Since internal consumption is now stagnant - added the president - we must focus on exports much more than we already do and by this I am referring to the indispensability of free trade agreements.

We must continue and protect those already in place, such as the one with China or on Brexit, but also push ourselves towards emerging economies, where our products can conquer large slices of the market, as shown by the double-digit growth in Vietnam (+ 37.3% ), Malaysia (+ 36.6%) and Korea (+ 52.4%).
