Prof. Eran Barzilai, Director of the Ultrasound Unit for Obstetrics and Gynecology at Assuta Public Hospital, calls on pregnant women to get vaccinated against Corona (Spokeswoman for Assuta Hospital in Ashdod)
The amount of antibodies in infants born to women after being vaccinated against corona is 3 times higher than in infants born to women who contracted covid-19 and recovered, according to the encouraging findings of a new study published today by Assuta Public Hospital in Ashdod.
The study also shows that in both cases the level of antibodies in the infants was higher than in the mother.
"The study found that women vaccinated with corona had a more efficient transfer of maternal antibodies to the fetus during pregnancy than women after recovery. So a vaccine for corona also protects the baby in the first months of life. Women - do not be afraid, get vaccinated," Women and Maternity Ultrasound Unit at Assuta Public Hospital.

The study they conducted there sought to test whether vaccinating a pregnant mother in the early stages of pregnancy can also confer protection on the newborn by passing antibodies through the placenta.
The researchers tested for the presence of covid-19 antibodies in the umbilical cord blood of newborns compared to maternal blood as well as in breast milk samples.
The level of antibodies in newborns was about 50 percent higher than their level in the mother's blood.

The study involved 40 women, 28 of whom were vaccinated and 12 recovering from corona, the average time between vaccination and childbirth was about three months. An examination of antibodies to anti-N that indicate infection with the virus found that all recoverers did indeed develop the corona virus. Whereas in the immunized group, two women (7.1 percent) were found to have contracted the virus without their knowledge. Examination of antibodies to the virus' SPIKE protein - which constitute the antibodies that protect against infection - found higher antibody values in the immunization group compared to the recovering group.
Examination of umbilical cord blood at birth (blood of the newborn taken from the umbilical cord after its separation) found that there is a significant transfer of antibodies through the placenta to the fetus. The level of antibodies in newborns was about 50 percent higher than their level in the mother's blood and this finding was consistent among both vaccinated and recovering mothers.
Because the pre-antibody level in the vaccinated mothers was higher, this ratio was maintained among the newborns as well, and in the babies born to the vaccines, the antibody level was three times higher than that measured in the babies born to the convalescent.
