Job advertisements already reveal a lot of what applicants can expect in their new job.

But many job seekers do not take the ad text too carefully.

Companies looking for new employees often go to great lengths to find the right candidate with a suitable job advertisement.

However, as a study by the UK website Job Description Library shows, many applicants are rejected in the first application phase because they did not read the job advertisement correctly.

There is often a

wide gap between the expectations of the applicants and the requirements of the companies

Sentences that applicants should look out for in the job advertisement

HR and career experts therefore advise you to pay attention to certain terms in the job advertisements in order to avoid premature job cancellations:

  • Job title:

The job title under which the position is advertised often does not reveal much about the function or the requirements of the position. Companies often use the same job title differently. If it is not clear to you which position this is exactly, please ask the contact person.

  • "Mandatory", "required", "ideally":

When describing the job, applicants should pay attention to the precise wording of the requirements. While some knowledge and skills are really required for the job, others are beneficial and not a requirement for employment. The “must” requirements include terms such as “compulsory” or “required” - the “can” requirements include “ideally”, “... are advantageous” or “... are desirable”.

  • "3 to 4 years of professional experience":

The information on professional experience provides applicants with information about how large the area of responsibility is, what salary is to be expected and the hierarchy level at which the position is intended.

While young professionals do not even need to apply for this position because they lack the necessary specialist knowledge, employees with more than 10 years of professional experience cannot expect a large salary here.

Does the job suit me?

After you have sifted through the job advertisement, applicants should always think about whether the position really suits them.

You need to know what you are looking for, what inspires you and what can motivate you

to perform at your best so that you can really develop,” advises Carol Cochran, Vice President for Human Resources and Culture at FlexJobs, in an interview with the online magazine

Businessinsider

.

"Whatever your motivation, this is what you should be looking for."
