The book was written by

Yaron Gutmark

, and the planning and photography of the routes was documented by

Yoav Lavi

- Two electronics engineers, graduates of the Technion, who connect their love of bicycles, nature trips and hummus.

Yaron, being a fan of the written word, dreamed of incorporating into the book the world of riding and hummus that he loves so much.

He was joined by Yoav, who made a professional transition to cycling instruction in nature and photography, and together they rode, ate and wrote, and thus the book was born.

"I love hummus and bicycles, and I quickly realized that these two loves are connected - towards the end of the ride I am already starting to think about the hummus of the end," Yaron explains how the idea for writing the book began.

"At some point, the idea of writing a book about this winning recipe for bicycles and chickpeas began to ripen in me."

Dilemma: How to choose the chickpeas in the book?

One of the dilemmas that preoccupied Yaron was how to choose the chickpeas he would write about.

So he built a questionnaire to check the quality of the chickpeas according to various parameters (taste, variety of dishes, service, curd and more) and gave each chickpea a rating of between 3 and 5 grains.

Regarding bicycle routes, this is where Yoav enters the story, who is an expert in knowing the country and a rider and instructor of off-road bicycles, and on the way also a talented photographer.

Yoav and Yaron chose the routes while pedaling them and tried not to ignore urban routes that receive a place of honor in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv - from the hummus powers - as well as in other cities.

Each collection in the book contains the following content:

  • Three tracks on three levels: beginners / families (9-6 km), experienced riders (20-12 km), adventurous riders (for those who have already ground a lot of terrain and with high physical fitness).

  • Each route comes with a barcode for a navigation file that is downloaded to the mobile phone and allows independent riding.

  • Information about the route area in terms of history, geography, heritage and the like.

  • Recommendation of recommended activities / attractions for the family.

  • Photos from the route and the landscapes you will encounter.

  • A good hummus review in the area, with the special story of the hummus owners, special dishes and photos to increase appetite.

The routes in the book start refreshingly from the south to the north, and include cycling routes in the Arava, through Mitzpe Ramon, Sde Boker, Dimona to the northern Negev (Dorot and Ruhama), continue to the Judean and Jerusalem mountains (Adulam Park, Gush Etzion and Ein Rafa), move to the center of the country ( Carmi Yosef, Kibbutz Einat, Yakum-Udim and Mount Horshen and continue north to the Springs Park, the Carmel, Tzipori, Kfar Kama, the Western Galilee and ending at Hermon-Snir. Cumulative and of course the hummus recommended at the end of the ride.

The bike reaches as far as the Valley of the Springs.
