Thirteen teams competed in the programming competition of the Syrian Virtual University, which qualified for the national programming competition, for five continuous hours today at the University's Lifelong Learning Center in Damascus.

The competition includes a set of issues that require a high level of analysis, logical thinking and programming algorithms. The top four teams in this competition qualify for the 2021 National Programming Competition, in which teams from most Syrian universities participate, and the winning teams qualify for the regional and then global competition.

Salma Qabbani, the competition director, said in a statement to SANA that the programming competition is taking place between the 13 teams, and each team consists of three contestants and a coach who works on one computer to programmatically solve a set of life problems in five continuous hours. The team that succeeds in solving the largest number gets first place. of issues in the shortest time, and a number of teams that advanced with their results qualify for competitions at all national, regional and international levels.

Qabbani confirmed that the Syrian Virtual University is interested in the programming competition based on its scientific responsibility, since the field of informatics is at the core of its formation and work in addition to its scientific responsibility.

Muayyad Makiya, a third-year computer engineering student at the university, explained that he is participating for the first time in the competition and aspires through this participation to reach higher levels, while Yazan Al-Sittah, a third-year student, confirmed that the competition provides him with practical experience and benefit.

Tarek Hallaq, a third-year informatics student, and Nagham Al-Shaarani, who is participating in the competition for the fourth time, pointed out that solving problems helps them develop logical thinking.

Abdul Qader Ghandoura, a trainer in the software competition at the Virtual University, indicated that the algorithms that students learn in the competition are of a higher level than what is proposed in the university curricula and depend on the student. for job opportunities.
