The popularly known

storm of Santa Rosa

said present this Tuesday, when

heavy rains and hail fell

in some areas of the province of Buenos Aires and the northwest of La Pampa.

The National Weather Service (SMN) reported that this Wednesday there will be a

yellow alert in the City and much of the Province,

where storms are expected that may last until Thursday.

According to SMN, the rains will also affect the south of Santa Fe, northeast of La Pampa and much of the eastern territory of San Luis.

The areas where the meteorological alert applies will be affected by rains, "some strong" and

storms of varying intensity

.

A strong storm with hail hit the Buenos Aires town of Coronel Suárez on Tuesday.

In addition, the statement highlighted the possible presence of

gusts, hail fall, intense electrical activity

and abundant water fall in short periods.

The meteorologist Fernando Confessore warned about the possibility of the rains continuing for more than a day.

"Just to put it in numbers, putting together all the available information, it gives me that it

rains for at least a period of 40 hours without

interruption," he posted on his Twitter account.

This Tuesday storms were already registered in the south and center of the Province.

Videos recorded by residents of

showed that the Buenos Aires town was affected by

Santa Rosa

According to popular lore, around this date, late August and early September, an intense storm known as Santa Rosa occurs.

But that "around" is not "fixed."

It can be a storm that occurs for about 3 or 4 days, around August 30 or about 15 days before and after that date, explains the SMN site.

"The truth is that as this limit is not entirely clear, any storm between August and September could be the one in Santa Rosa," adds the SMN, introducing that, for greater certainty, some parameters were set to analyze the frequency of the popular phenomenon.

According to the meteorological glossary of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), for there to be a storm there must be

electrical activity

.

A rain without the presence of sudden discharges of atmospheric electricity accompanied by a flash (lightning) and a noise (thunder), does not classify as a storm.

However, storms are associated with so-called convective clouds (cumulonimbus) which generally (although not always) generate intense precipitation in the form of a downpour of rain or, occasionally, snow or hail, as well as strong winds.

The center and north-west of Argentina are the regions where this type of storms is frequent already in the second half of the year, times in which the atmosphere is subjected to changes in its circulation due to the proximity of spring.

This phenomenon, explains the SMN, favors the presence of warm air, more humidity and conditions conducive to the development of storms.
