The taekwondo fighter Zakia Khudadadi, one of the two Afghan athletes who arrived in Tokyo after being evacuated from Kabul on an Australian flight, made her debut at the Paralympics.
In the under 49kg category, the 22-year-old won her first round against Uzbek Ziyodakhon Isakova, only to lose the other two and finish defeat 17-12.
Fished out, she then clashed with the five-time world champion, the Ukrainian Viktoriia Marchuk, losing 48-34.
"Now we will start discussing what will happen at the closing ceremony and where the two athletes will go after" the Games, said Craig Spence, spokesperson for the CIP.
