Gärtringen - Ciloglu Handels GmbH from Gärtringen in Baden-Württemberg has started a recall for "Dried Figs".
The product with the name CILOGLU ASURELIK INCIR 20X250GR (article number: 0114323 / barcode: 8682631804985) with the best before date 07.2022 is no longer safe to consume.
The reason is an increased content of aflatoxins (B1, B2, G1 and G2).
The manufacturer writes in the recall: “These are mycotoxins, which can endanger health.
Therefore, the affected batch should not be consumed. "

Fruit Recall: Mycotoxins - Dangerous mold toxins found in figs
The Lower Saxony State Office for Consumer Protection and Food Protection describes mycotoxins as toxic metabolic products that are formed by mold.
"Due to their toxicity (poisonousness) for humans and animals, mycotoxins are among the undesirable contaminants in food and feed."
Depending on the type of toxins and the amount absorbed, the effect of the mycotoxins could be acutely and / or chronically toxic due to "carcinogenic, mutagenic, immunosuppressive, teratogenic, nephrotoxic and estrogenic properties." This could lead to different diseases in humans.
Among other things, they can promote the development of cancer, damage the kidneys and liver, impair the immune system or cause diarrhea and vomiting.
Recall of dried figs: Product can be returned to shops
According to Ciloglu Handels GmbH, the product can be returned in the relevant shops - with or without a receipt - for a refund of the purchase price.
