The Berlin district court has sentenced a 28-year-old who raped women several times to a prison term of ten and a half years.
It found the accused guilty of particularly serious rape, dangerous bodily harm, deprivation of liberty and hostage-taking.
The presiding judge said it was terrible deeds that stunned.
The attacks involved group rapes, some of them lasting for hours.
"The women were scared to death."
Woman held for hours
In the first act, the accused and an alleged accomplice in August 2019 in Berlin-Kreuzberg took a tourist couple from Australia as an alleged taxi, the verdict said.
The 28-year-old and his accomplice pushed the young man out of the car after a short drive and drove on with the woman.
Both attackers raped the tourist.
In January 2020, the two men are said to have suddenly dragged an then 18-year-old from the street into a car in the Friedrichshain district, raped her and then dragged her to an apartment.
The young woman was held for hours and repeatedly sexually abused.
Accomplice already convicted
In the third case at the end of February 2020, the defendant and three other men were finally in a car "looking for victims," the verdict said.
A then 21-year-old was pulled into the car and severely strangled when she struggled.
Three men raped the young woman.
"Six to seven people stood around the car and watched."
A 33-year-old accomplice of the 28-year-old was sentenced to thirteen years and six months in prison at an earlier trial.
The perpetrators had "purposefully hunted down young women," the decision said.
Both judgments are not yet final.
