"The EU has shown, in the face of the pandemic and its economic and social consequences, an effective and timely reaction capacity. The actions undertaken, both in terms of vaccination campaigns and in support of social crises and economic recovery, confirm the goodness of the choices made in the direction of shared sovereignty at the continental level. European integration allows a critical mass to be played at the international level on the economic level to the benefit of the European peoples ". Thus the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, in a message to the Ambrosetti forum.
"An analogous commitment must now concern the contribution of the European Union to the cause of peace, development, security and international stability. The globalization of markets implies that it occurs at the same time as the diffusion of rights, in order to achieve the full dignity of people in every corner of the world. Hence the need for a common foreign and security policy. This is a matter in which the EU has so far moved too timidly ".
