(ANSA-AFP) - TAPACHULA, 05 SEPT - The Mexican police today dispersed a caravan of about 400 migrants, mainly Central Americans, who hoped to reach the border with the United States on foot.
The agents intercepted the group as they were about to leave the city of Huixtla in the southern state of Chiapas, blocking the roads and the highway and arresting some people. The people who made up the caravan were almost all from El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala, Haiti and Venezuela.
Activists and UN officials traveling with them have denounced the excessive use of force. Two agents were suspended for running over one of the migrants.
