When it comes to cleaning the household, the usual home remedies are often used.

Vinegar in particular is considered an all-rounder - but not for the shower head!

Vinegar is actually the top all-purpose cleaner among home remedies.

After all, it makes almost everything sparkling clean - and even stubborn limescale can be removed very well with it.

But there are limits.

For the shower head, for example, vinegar is not at all suitable, but it is worthwhile for the tiles in the shower.

But why shouldn't the home remedy be used on the shower head too?

Read here why - and which home remedies are suitable instead.

Home remedies for cleaning: This is why vinegar is not good for the shower head

Citric acid is still best. This home remedy can also fight against calcium deposits. And it is gentler on the seals than vinegar. This is also the reason why you shouldn't use vinegar to clean the shower head. The home remedy is

too aggressive for the seals

and can cause great damage here. Instead, it is better to use citric acid. You can find this remedy in any well-stocked drugstore.

To get the shower head clean, you should first unscrew it and place it in a large bowl or bucket.

Fill the container with water - so that the shower head is completely covered.

Now

mix in

a teaspoon of the

citric acid in powder form

.

Leave the shower head in it for about half an hour.

Then it is rinsed off with clear water and can be screwed on again.

Cleaning the shower head: brushing out as an alternative

As an alternative to the soaking method with citric acid, you can also brush out the shower head.

Again, the shower head is unscrewed again, then

brush off the lime with a brush

.

If the shower head is extremely calcified, you can also use this method as a pretreatment and finally use citric acid for the remaining lime.
