In 1960, Belmondo imposed himself on the screen in Breathless. He became the figure of this current which revolutionized the 7th Art.

In

Breathless

(1960), Belmondo asks Jean Seberg if he can piss in his sink. The New Wave was born in a maid's room. At the time, this kind of replica did not run the screens. And, apart from Belmondo, we do not see which actor could have uttered such a sentence. With Godard, however, the meeting had almost not happened. The defective from the Conservatory was wary of this Swiss with the trailing accent who did not take off his dark glasses and who had approached him in the street saying:

"Come to my hotel room, we will shoot and I will give you 50,000. francs. "

He had taken him for a homosexual. Without his wife (

"What are you risking? If it doesn't go well, you put your fist in her face ..."

), Bébel would never have played in the short film,

Charlotte et son Jules

(1958).

After the last take, the director promises him:

"The day I make my first feature film, it will be with you."
