The data drew attention: while in
almost all of South America
deaths from Covid continue to fall, in Argentina the figure for the last week was
9 percent higher
.
The alarms immediately went off, but the explanation of the phenomenon would not have to do with an
untimely lethality
of the virus.
Deaths were falling in Argentina, as in the rest of the region.
The last week
was not the exception for the continent
, but it was for our country.
In Brazil, deaths fell 10 percent;
in Colombia, 22;
in Venezuela, 3;
in Peru, 15;
in Chile, 13;
in Bolivia, 1;
in Ecuador, 19;
in Paraguay, without variation, 0;
Uruguay, 62.
What happened then in Argentina, which registered this rise of
almost ten points
in seven days.
Clarín
reviewed the records of the last days and the conclusion was that the
162 deaths reported this Monday should
at least be prorated until August 24.
Although, strictly speaking, according to official sources, the delay could go back even further.
That is to say, the old and well-known
"backlog"
went back to doing its thing.
At least until that day, August 24, according to figures updated with the last part of this Monday, there were
112,511 deaths
.
Now there are
112,673
.
All of which reveals, on the one hand, that the current figure is not a photo, but a film of -at least- the last 15 days.
On the other, that the number of deaths reported in the last two weeks
was lower than reality
.
This problem has existed since the beginning of the pandemic, but is exposed when these "unforeseen" occur.
The number of positive tests is in sharp decline in the country.

The explanation of the "back load" is consistent with two other complementary data.
The number of Covid cases has not stopped falling for several weeks.
In the last one, the decline was
24 percent
.
In addition, the occupancy of intensive care beds continues to decline: today, those destined for Covid have
2,293 patients
.
Clarín
consulted the infectologist Eduardo López, advisor to the Government.
"It's the million dollar question," he answered.
Why the death toll does not decrease in proportion to other places.
At the end of August, in 17 months of pandemic,
almost 9 individuals
have died
per hour in Argentina
.
It is an important figure ”.
López added that for him it is a mystery why the number of deaths does not drop and, also, why it has
these fluctuations
.
“The response of the Ministry of Health is always 'overdue cargo'.
I can't give you another explanation.
On the other hand, the number of people in intensive care has decreased ”.
Clarín
consulted the Ministry of Health, which confirmed that
"there are notifications from previous months"
, although without further details.
This reveals, once again, that a good part of what we call the present of the pandemic
is the past
, due to the slowness with which data is loaded into the National Health Surveillance System.
The national party's statement is always cut short: "The notification and burden of vaccinated people, new cases and deaths is the
responsibility of each of the jurisdictions
."
A scenario that in turn leaves a disturbing question: the circulation of the Delta variant for now we place it in the future, although that future is probably in part this present.
