Italian pilot and stuntman Dario Costa became the first pilot to officially fly a plane through two tunnels.
A feat that earned him entry into the Guinness World Records for the longest tunnel crossed by a plane (1,610 m).
The exploit took place early Saturday morning in two consecutive tunnels located on a highway near Istanbul, Turkey.
41-year-old Dario Costa was at the controls of a specially modified Zivko Edge 540 racing plane.
The pilot and stuntman took off inside a first tunnel, maintaining a distance of about one meter from the ground.
Coming out of this first 360 m long tunnel, the Italian had to fly on an open section of the motorway, which he succeeded perfectly despite a wind that came from sideways.

Dario Costa then went through the second 1160 m tunnel at an average speed of 245 km / h. The pilot spent a total flight time of 43.44 seconds in the two tunnels. He celebrated his achievement by completing a 360 degree loop before reaching the asphalt where his team awaited him. “I have never flown in a tunnel in my life. No one has ever done it. So I had a big question mark in my head, to know if everything would have gone as planned or if there would have been something to improvise, to fix, to improvise. So yeah, that was a big relief, of course. But a great, great happiness, ”explained the pilot when he got down from his plane.
