Afghanistan: Guerini, ready for other evacuations

(ANSA) - ROME, SEPTEMBER 07 - "There is regret and great concern for those who have not managed to leave Afghanistan and the Defense offers full availability for any further evacuation operations from the country". Thus the Minister of Defense, LorenzoGuerini, in his briefing on Afghanistan in the Senate Chamber. Guerini then recalled that he had represented in the NATO Ministerial last February "the need to evaluate the confirmation of the presence of the forces of the Alliance even beyond the deadline of 1 May, provided for by the agreements stipulated by the USA". Already then, he explained, "the achievement of the political and security conditions envisaged by the agreement seemed far from being satisfied, given the stalemate in the peace talks, theincreased attacks on Afghan security forces and the assassinations of institutional representatives ".
