Five days after the explosion of a house in Rohrbach in the Bavarian district of Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm, the police identified the body that was burned in the family's car.
The police in Ingolstadt said it was the husband of the previously identified resident.
A DNA comparison brought certainty.
The findings so far suggested that the 55-year-old was responsible for the explosion.
The case raises many puzzles.
After the explosion on Thursday, the now identified as a husband was driven head-on into a truck in Schrobenhausen, about 30 kilometers away, and burned in the process.
The truck driver was seriously injured.
Man presumably also responsible for the apartment fire in Saxony
In addition, a fire broke out almost simultaneously in an empty apartment in Lugau, Saxony.
The police saw connections between the three events early on.
The findings suggested that the 55-year-old was also responsible for the apartment fire, she said.
At the weekend, the body recovered from the ruins of the house in Rohrbach had already been identified as the 54-year-old wife.
According to the police, no one is currently missing in connection with the explosion, and the investigations at the location of the explosion have been completed.
The background to the incidents is still unclear, said a spokesman.
The exact cause of the explosion and the question of how the woman died are also still open.
The investigators had found a gas bottle in the house - as it was later in the car.
There is no suspicion against third parties.
The fire in an empty apartment in Lugau is also a mystery.
This belonged to the couple and caught fire around the same time as the explosion.
