Three years after the attack on the Jewish restaurant »Schalom« and its manager in Chemnitz, a 30-year-old was sentenced to a suspended sentence.
The Chemnitz District Court found the man from Lower Saxony guilty of dangerous bodily harm and breach of the peace.
At the end of August 2018, a group attacked the restaurant with stones and bottles and injured the landlord in the process.
The convicted man's DNA had been found on a stone.
In conjunction with another drug trafficking conviction, the judge handed down a one-year suspended sentence.
The defense demands an acquittal
Public prosecutor Thomas Fischer had spoken of a "racist act" in his plea.
The landlord should have been met because he professed to be Judaism.
He requested a total imprisonment of one year and one month - without parole.
The defense, however, demanded an acquittal.
In addition to the DNA trace, no further evidence of his client's guilt was found, said lawyer Jan-Hendrik Herms.
The defendant himself had not commented on the allegations at the trial.
The verdict is not yet legally binding.
