We need more than ever a strong public audiovisual

"

This amount, which includes all financial resources from abroad, is driven by a jump of nearly 50% in pre-sales of programs (77.7 million euros), the growth of contributions in co-production (+3 % to 80.2 million), stable sales but at a high level (196.9 million) and expenses in France for international projects up slightly (+ 1% to 134.3 million).

Documentary records sales record

"

This ability that our professionals had to meet the global demand for programs throughout the health crisis means that, paradoxically, 2020 has been an excellent year

", greeted Dominique Boutonnat, president of the CNC, during a conference of hurry. French animation remains the first genre sold internationally and represents 38% of sales. It is followed by fiction (24% of sales) and documentaries (23.4%) which constitute the bulk of sales.

In ten years, these three genres have taken off: animation and fiction have more than doubled their sales over the period, driven by strong brands in animation, such as "

Simon

", "

Molang

" or "

Oggy

", and a renewed interest in streaming platforms for fiction in non-English languages.

The documentary recorded a sales record in 2020, marking the recognition of “French

know-how

” in this field where buyers are very diverse (television channels of all categories and platforms), underlines the study. “

Format

” programs - i.e. program concepts (games, entertainment, magazines) adaptable abroad - represented 10.8% of sales, a share that has fallen sharply in nearly 10 years (17.9%). % in 2011).

Western Europe remains the main market for French programs (87 million euros), followed by North America (25.3 million) and Asia (16.6 million).

Global rights or "

world rights

" (cession contracts covering several global territories) are declining after the record level of 2019, but remain at a sufficiently high level (-2.8% to 41.2 million euros) to make it the second export zone in 2020, a movement supported by strong demand from streaming platforms.

On so-called stock programs - that is to say fiction (TV films, series), animation, documentaries and live shows - France "

is the second most represented European country on international platforms, behind the United Kingdom

”, add the CNC and UniFrance, on the basis of a survey carried out by Ampère Analysis on 465 catalogs of streaming platforms in 49 countries. With 1.6% of the program offer on these international platforms, France is “

the sixth nation, all countries combined

” ahead of Germany, Spain and Italy. American production dominates (14.5%) followed by that of the United Kingdom (7.2%) and Asian countries (Japan 5.4%; South Korea 3.1%; China 2.2%).
