(ANSA) - VENICE, 08 SEPT - An egocentric writer closed in his study and in his books that he loves perhaps more than his family, a rather invisible wife, two teenage children who await attention and approval: it is the familiar picture of the Great Silence, the film by Alessandro Gassmann at the Giornate degli Autori in Venice 78 with an important cast with Massimiliano Gallo, Margherita Buy and Marina Confalone, flanked by two young emerging Antonia Fotaras and EmanueleLinfatti.

The story of the film is taken from the play of the same name by Maurizio de Giovanni, who also wrote the screenplay together with Andrea Ozza and Gassmann himself and which Gassmann had already directed at the theater. "At the heart of the story are the silences that day after day create such a great detachment that it is impossible to recover. The story is set in the 1960s in Naples practically all inside a large villa, VillaPrimic, once luxurious now shabby that now Mrs. Rose ( Buy) sells agree with his sons Massimiliano eAdele and in contrast to her husband Valerio (Gallo), which scopriràdi he never really knew his family while lagovernante (Confalone) seems to be the only one with which it communicates.

Gassmann has carved out a small role, a pasta-style advertisement for the captain.

"I love silence, I talk a lot in public but I - reveals Gassmann - like silences, only two people were more silent: my father and Erri De Luca".

The Great Silence produced by Paco Cinematografica in collaboration with Vision Distribution, Amazon Prime Video, SKY and Rai Cinema, will be distributed by Vision Distribution starting from 16 September. "The lockdown gave me a lot of time to reflect, even on myself, for me it determined a departure: I do not deny anything of my past, I have made a lot of comedy, drama, but now I seem to know myself better, I am 56 years old and I would like to follow what I am in life much more than before. I will be less pop and I hope this film is a good way to show that I can do well in directing too ". (HANDLE).
