The pro-Islamist Justice and Development Party (PJD) ruling in Morocco suffered a burning defeat by the liberal parties in yesterday's legislative elections: this is what emerges from the preliminary results of the vote released by Interior Minister Abdelouafi Laftit.
The PJD lost 113 seats, from 125 to 12, far behind liberal rivals: billionaire Aziz Akhannouch's National Rally (NRI) with 97 seats, the Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM) with 82 and the Party of Independence (center-right) with 78. Voter
turnout was 50.35% compared to 43% in the previous legislative elections held in 2016, but less than 53% in the local elections in 2015. (ANSA).
