On August 24, Netflix filed a gracious appeal against the Smad Decree. Published with great fanfare on June 23 and entered into force on July 1, this decree integrates video-on-demand platforms into the funding system for French creation. It requires platforms such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video or Disney + to invest 25% of their turnover in content with a 20% arrow of these amounts towards cinema financing. In return, the government had undertaken to integrate the platforms into a new media chronology for cinema and to open the audiovisual support account managed by the CNC to independent productions of series commissioned by the platforms. However, if the obligations of the platforms did indeed come into force on July 1, the counterparties are still slow in coming.
