Touch from "Big Brother": the pool, winery and hotel for NIS 800 per night

Mountains, landscapes, history, food, wine and a variety of attractions.

Between spending time in the relaxed atmosphere of the pool in the nearby kibbutz, the winery that touches the "Big Brother" house and the challenging park that allows you to break a routine, is the hotel that overlooks the Jerusalem corridor from the top of a mountain at an altitude of 850 meters

Touch from "Big Brother": the pool, winery and hotel for NIS 800 per night

Ben Gurion Airport, Sha'ar HaGai, Abu Ghosh, and we're already unpacking at the entrance to the Yaarim Hotel. until the upper Galilee for a family vacation, when mountains, lush green scenery, history, food, wine, attractions, and even the occasional bit of water in nature forty minutes from Ayalon.

After all, Jerusalem they mix most Israeli who, villages alongside the kibbutzim, moshavim and Orthodox and everything looks closely Jerusalem, and on the other hand the green trees, the grape vineyards, the cool evening breeze and the morning mists give the moment a feeling of another place.

The Forests Hotel overlooks the Jerusalem Corridor from the top of a mountain at an altitude of 850 meters.

The recently renovated hotel is located right in the woods and next to Kibbutz Ma'ale Hahamisha.

The story of the place as a hotel begins even before the establishment of the state, when a convalescent home for the employees of the potash company was established here.

Its construction was not completed, and with the establishment of the state it became the base of the Harel Brigade.

In 1955, the place was renovated and returned to its original purpose as a convalescent home and later as a hotel.

That old building has been renovated several times and today is part of the Forest Hotel itself.

Even if you do not complain about the historic structure, do yourself a favor and come see this special structure.

Within a few minutes drive there are many hiking trails, good restaurants and no less important, some of the best wineries in the country, so you can combine all the things that really matter.

The hotel pool is the kibbutz pool

Even though it is a mountain, we are still in the summer and in Israel, so a few hours of pool a day are almost a must.

As someone who suffers from a severe allergy to hotel pools, I was happy to find out that the hotel's outdoor pool is actually the pool of the nearby kibbutz.

Lawns, relaxed atmosphere, large trees - a complete antithesis to what you know from previous vacations.

The hotel offers a variety of accommodation options as well as packages that include a variety of activities, such as a culinary tour of the market in the Judean camp, guided tours of the area and activities for children.

Maybe others have gotten used to it, but I have a hard time dealing with hotel rooms that start at NIS 1,000 for a double room, so I was happy to find out that the price for a double room, which includes a huge breakfast, starts at NIS 800.

Its original purpose was a convalescent home.

Get Thenna

After eating, walking and drinking - it's time for some adrenaline. Near Kibbutz Kiryat Anavim, Jenna Park, one of the largest challenge parks in Israel, recently opened, which already (even before the park is fully open) provides a challenging and routine-breaking experience. The living spirit behind the park is Nisso Shaham, former Jerusalem District Police Chief, who together with the nearby kibbutz and several other partners managed to pick up an impressive park that caters not only to tourists but also to Jerusalem residents and the surrounding area.

In the center of the park stands a large tower built of steel beams. This is a large ropes park that has four floors, and the higher you go the more scary and difficult it will be. When I went up to the tower (straight to the second floor, obviously) I was sure it was quite small, but pretty quickly I realized that it was quite challenging and also scary just as it should be. Out of the tower comes a long omega, a large number of climbing walls with varying difficulty levels and even a lovable bungee-like facility. Kids ages 6-7 can have fun here for a few hours of challenge.

Of course all activities are completely secure, but this is also the weak point of the place.

The security system is annoying, requires a lot of fuss and is often frustrating, and makes the movement between the various challenges cumbersome.

I have been to quite a few rope parks in the world in the past and there are much less troublesome and no less safe solutions.

Later on, the park will also include a karting track, a large paintball complex and field trips in the area.

The park is open all week and the basic entrance ticket costs about NIS 100.

A routine-breaking experience.

It is really impossible to be in the Judean mountains in summer, to pass by the green grape vineyards from which large clusters hang just before harvest, and not to taste wine in one of the excellent wineries in the area. Near Neve Ilan, right among the forest trees and within touching distance of the Big Brother house, is Castel Winery. The family winery began its journey in the late 1980s. The father of the family was born in Egypt, grew up in Italy, immigrated to Israel, and settled in the Judean mountains and planted a small European-style vineyard in his backyard. No one could have guessed that this vineyard would herald the return of a long-standing tradition lost 2000 years ago - growing grapes for wine.

Since then the mountain slopes have been filled with terraces of green vines, many wineries and a wine culture that is only gaining momentum. Castel Winery has also grown, and a tiny winery has become one of the most influential wineries in the country. In 2015 it moved to its current location, with a large visitor center. Touring the modern winery, tasting wine, hearing stories and realizing that only 30 years ago all this was still a distant dream.

A complete antithesis to what you know from previous vacations.

Bab al-Wad's remake

I like to break the food-pool-attraction routine with a visit to a historic site or heritage site.

It gives added value to connecting to the hiking area - both geographically and humanly.

The road leading to Jerusalem is full of history, for several thousand years people have been making the journey to and from the city.

The road to it is paved with a distant history and a close battle heritage.

At the Valley Gate, in a place once known as Bab al-Wad, stood for years an ancient and neglected structure.

This is a khan from the Ottoman period that served as a roadside hotel for pilgrims to Jerusalem.

The khan has recently undergone an intensive renovation by the Nature and Parks Authority and has become a national heritage site that tells by interactive means the incredible story of a handful of warriors who in the War of Independence decided to leave the only access road to besieged Jerusalem open at all costs.

The visit takes about 45 minutes and is completely inside the building, so it is suitable for lunch activities while it is too hot to do anything else.
