(ANSA) - SOFIA, 10 SEPT - The cocaine boss, the Bulgarian Evelin Banev known as 'Brendo', ex-head of a Bulgarian-Italian criminal gang active in international drug trafficking, was arrested in Ukraine.

The man, 56, was arrested in Kiev. His gang was vanquished in late May 2012 in Bulgaria, as part of an operation called 'The kings of cocaine', carried out by Bulgarian and Italian special services with the assistance of Interpol.

The organization linked to the Calabrian 'Ndrangheta, made up of over thirty people of which 15 Bulgarians and 12 Italians, brought an average of 40 tons of cocaine into Italy from South America, mainly via the sea.

However, he was later brought back to Sofia, where he managed to get into the bush in 2015. (ANSA).
