From wheat to bread, the price increases twelvefold.
This was stated by Coldiretti in reference to Assopanificatori's analysis of the price increase in autumn.
The organization points out that wheat production in Italy has suffered an estimated 10% cut due to the crazy climate, despite the increase in cultivated areas.
Coldiretti informs that "a kilo of soft wheat is sold for about 26 cents while a kilo of bread is bought by citizens at an average value of 3.1 euros with an increase of twelve times, taking into account that to make a kilo of bread about a kilo of wheat is needed, from which 800 grams of flour are obtained to be mixed with water to obtain a kilo of finished product ". The organization adds "that the price of wheat has little impact on that of bread, as is also shown by the extreme variability of the prices of bread in Italy, while those of wheat are set internationally". Coldiretti points out that "if in Milan a one-kilo loaf costs 4.2 euros, in Rome it costs around 2.63 euros while in Palermo it costs an average of 2.95 euros per kilo according to Coldiretti elaborations on data fromPrice Observatory of the Ministry of Economic Development. Coldiretti concludes by saying that "moreover, consumer prices have never dropped in recent years despite the high variability of grain prices, which for a long time have been below production costs".
