Salzburg Alps: German slips on snow and dies

In the Salzburg Alps, a 64-year-old man from Munich slipped on the snow and fell 100 meters. An emergency doctor could only determine the death of the man.

The accident happened at an altitude of 2,700 meters: A mountaineer from Munich died in a crash in the Salzburg mountains.

According to the Austrian police, the accident in the Kaprun area happened on Thursday.

The 64-year-old alpinist was out and about with a 58-year-old man from Bavaria.

The older one went ahead, slipped and fell 100 meters, the police said.

When an emergency doctor reached the victim in a helicopter in the steep, rocky terrain, he could only determine the death of the 64-year-old.

The man was well equipped, but at the time of the accident he did not strap his crampons to his shoes, the police said.
