The
Amazing Fantasy # 15
comic
from 1962, in which Peter Parker and
his alter ego
Spiderman make their comic book debut, was sold on Thursday for three million euros at the Heritage Auctions auction house.
The record was held so far by Superman's first appearance in
Action Comics # 1,
which was sold in a private transaction for € 2.75 million in April.

The Marvel comic, which cost just 12 cents when it was published, features the origin story of Spiderman, when Peter Parker gains his powers after being bitten by a radioactive spider.
The story told by Stan Lee and drawn by Steve Ditko, shows Spiderman taking action for the first time between the towers of New York.
According to
The Guardian
newspaper
,
the auction house announced that the copy of
Amazing Fantasy # 15
was impeccable and that it is one of only four known copies that exist in these conditions. "What better record-breaking book than the debut of Marvel's most beloved character?" said Heritage Auctions Vice President Lon Allen.
The success of this sale reflects the rising price line for comics within auction houses, although there is no market index to quantify growth in this area.
Álvaro Pons, comics critic and director of the SM-UV Foundation Comic Studies chair, points out that the phenomenon began with Superman when the first issue of
Action Comics
broke the million dollar barrier.
"The big difference is that the comics that were reaching millionaire figures were from the 30s and this Spiderman cartoon is from the 60s, but here you are not paying so much for the date, but for the symbolic appearance of a character", Pons explains.

In the
Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide
, a book that stipulates the prices of comics according to the state they are in, the year of publication and the number of copies available, it is noted that the most valuable comics are the first appearances of characters always. Wolverine's first appearance in the Hulk series makes that number the most valuable in the entire series. This phenomenon also occurs with number 27 of
Detective Comics,
which is where Batman first appears. The success of this auction is also explained by the importance of the character, Spiderman is increasingly successful in video games and movies and was for many years the Marvel logo. Another very booming market is that of comic book originals, which are also being sold for very large amounts, as is the case with the famous cursed cover of Tintin, which has recently also been sold for three million euros.
