The collection of signatures for the cannabis referendum begins.

A question has been filed with the Supreme Court which proposes to intervene both on the level of criminal relevance and on that of administrative sanctions regarding cannabis.

To propose it, and to deposit it in the Supreme Court on 7 September, experts, jurists and militants, who have always been committed against prohibition, coordinated by the associations Luca Coscioni, Meglio Legale, Forum Droghe, Antigone, Società della Ragione.

Representatives of the + Europa, Possible and Italian Radicals parties also participate in the proposal.

Therefore, the collection of signatures starts, to be completed in just 20 days as, as required by law, the signatures must be collected from 1 January to 30 September of the same year: it will be possible on the website www.referendumcannabis.it thanks to the digital signature, a unique possibility for the practice of direct democracy by telematic means. The promoters appeal to the Government so that there is no discrimination regarding the possibility of delivering the certified signatures by 30 October, as for the other referendums presented in the Supreme Court before 15 June. "The cultivation, sale and consumption of cannabis is one of the most important social issues in our country. A theme that crosses justice, public health, safety, business opportunities, scientific research, individual freedoms and, above all ,the fight against the mafias. There are 6 million cannabis users in Italy, including many patients often left alone by the state unable to receive the therapy, despite the regular prescription. These Italians today have only two choices: to finance the criminal market in drug dealing squares or to grow cannabis at home risking up to 6 years in prison. A debate that can no longer be postponed and must be addressed with every democratic tool ", reads a note from the promoters.finance the criminal market in drugstores or grow cannabis at home, risking up to 6 years in prison.
